Kids Summer Sessions

Kids Camp Basic Spanish and Culture

Profe Lexie has been teaching kids in our after-school Spanish program for a few years. She can’t wait to bring her Mexican heritage to kids this summer in a week of language, music, games, food, crafts and culture. Profe Lexie will teach and use basic Spanish, engaging kids throughout the session. Recommended for kids with basic or no Spanish, ages 6-10.

Book Club for Spanish Immersion (entering 7th-9th grades)

Students will read the popular young adult novel Furia. Written by an Argentinian author, this engaging novel centers around Camila, a teenage soccer star whose parents don’t approve of her passion. Profe Rachel makes this book even more engaging with fun activities and discussions focused on vocabulary, grammar, and of course, the twists and turns of the story. Students are expected to read about 50-80 pages per week (about 20 minutes a day).

Spanish - Beginner Verb Review

June 10-July 22

Wednesdays 5:00-6:00pm – online

Instructor: Jennie Frazier

Join Profe Jennie with 20+ years of experience teaching Spanish! Gain confidence in conjugating present tense verbs, using the present progressive, verb structures like gustar, ir a, and tener que, and understanding past (preterite and imperfect) tense verbs. Each class includes grammar instruction and practice, fun activities, reading, and conversation. Optional at-home practice will also be provided weekly. (Recommended for EdConnect students that have completed Levels 1-5 or new students that want to solidify their grammatical foundations.)

Join Profe Andie with 15+ years of experience teaching Spanish! Learn to confidently use preterite and imperfect verbs. Understand and begin to use all verb tenses and forms! Each class includes grammar instruction and practice, fun activities, reading, and conversation. Optional at-home practice will also be provided weekly. (Recommended for EdConnect students that have completed Level 11 or higher or new students that want to thoroughly understand verbs.)

Spanish Conversation Club

Instructor: Rachel Mefor

Choose from Beginner (Level 1-3), Intermediate (Levels 4-7),
Advanced (Levels 8-12) or Superior (Levels 13+).

The creative and experienced Profe Rachel will guide you in practical and focused conversation at your level. Depending on the number of students enrolled, this class may be divided by level (same day/time but different profesora). Recommended for anyone interested in improving their Spanish speaking skills!

Spanish for Travel

June 30 – July 28

Tuesdays 6:30-8:00pm – online

Instructor: Amanda Cisneros

Profe Amanda also owns a travel company and has visited numerous Spanish-speaking countries. She will teach you the travel basics in a fun and practical way. You will feel confident in navigating schedules and directions, ordering meals, using numbers/money, checking into your accommodations, etc. Recommended for anyone that already knows very basic Spanish.

Spanish in the Community (Grand Rapids)

August 4 – Sept 1

Tuesdays 6:30-8:00pm – Grand Rapids, Michigan

Instructor: Amanda Cisneros

Join Profe Amanda as we connect with local businesses, non-profits, and of course, restaurants owned or operated by Latinos in Grand Rapids. Each week, we will visit two places and hear from someone that works there. Our interactions will be primarily in Spanish–with help from the profesora. (Recommended for EdConnect students that have completed Level 7 or higher or new students with a solid base of Spanish.)

Pop Culture in Spanish

Profe Rachel possesses passion for Pitbull, Prince Royce, and pop culture in Spanish! Join her in an exploration of music, social media, shows, and a film in Spanish. In this fun class, you will improve your vocabulary and comprehension skills while expanding your interest in pop culture in Spanish.

Basic Spanish Bootcamp

July 7, 8, 9, 14, and 16

5:30-8:30pm

Instructor: Andie Merkison

This is our Level 1 Spanish class taught over two weeks (still 15 hours)! You will learn basic conversational Spanish with fun-loving Profe Andie and start communicating with the most-used words and phrases in the Spanish language. You will be able to make introductions; talk about family, hobbies, past and present plans; and express your needs and wants! Also, you will read a mini-novel about the adventures of a capybara in Ecuador. This class is for students with no prior knowledge of Spanish; we start from square one.
